Complete traceability solution for the development of safety-critical applications

Esterel Technologies and TNI-Software partner to extend Requirements Management capabilities of Esterel Technologies’ SCADE Suite, providing a complete traceability solution for the development of safety-critical applications.

Paris, France and Mountain View, California — June 7, 2006

The stringent and internationally accepted DO-178B process standard that governs the development of civilian avionics embedded software is primarily requirements driven. This implies that at each stage of their development, the software developers must be able to demonstrate traceability of designs against requirements; i.e. are the high-level requirements I am specifying traceable to the system requirements? Are the low-level requirements traceable to the high-level requirements? Etc. More generally, traceability is requested by the most demanding safety-critical process standards such as: DO178B, IEC 61508, EN50128.

A Requirements Management (RM) tool is needed to respond safely and consistently to that problem, thus enabling links between artefacts, providing support for repetitive tasks, and finally giving to teams the ability to keep track of their designs.

The announced SCADE RM Gateway allows designers to capture high-level requirements and link them to the SCADE model while designing. Main features include:

  • Automatic coverage analysis,
  • Automatic highlight of changed requirements,
  • Upstream and downstream impact analysis (help for regression risk management),
  • Requirements consistency rule checking: uncovered, undefined, several times,
  • Automatic and customisable report generation of traceability matrix, coverage analysis, impact analysis,
  • Bi-directional navigation between the SCADE specification and its requirements

Thanks to TNI-Software’s robust and agile technology, we have been able to add a natural and accurate Requirements Management Gateway to the existing series of SCADE gateways, said Eric Bantegnie, CEO of Esterel Technologies. The SCADE Certified Software Factory™ will greatly benefit from this new module. SCADE RM Gateway enables a seamless integration of SCADE into the existing processes and tools of our customers, enhancing its connectivity with a wide range of text processing tools, RM tools, test tools, and modelling tools.

Concurrent operation of SCADE RM Gateway with SCADE Model Test Coverage module ensures that requirements, model, test plan and test scripts are always synchronised. In addition, it enables the creation of cross-reports that greatly facilitate certification process. Finally, these unique capabilities comply with the most demanding quality standards and facilitate CMMI software process improvement approach (Capability Maturity Model® Integration).

Availability

SCADE RM Gateway will be available as a module of SCADE 5.1 in September 2006.
